Bugis and Kampong Glam
Bugis and Kampong Glam are districts situated to the east of the city center of Singapore and are well-known as popular promenades and shopping and dining venues with colorful historical backdrop. Bugis and Kampong retains its significant influence of Malay-ethnic and Muslim community. Many major landmarks of these two districts include two of the most historically important mosques. The Sultan Mosque, aka Masjid Sultan, is the largest mosque in Singapore while Hajjah Fatimah Mosque, which was named after a Malay aristocrat who donated money for its construction, is the second most important mosque that flaunts its unique Malay Muslim and colonial British architecture blend.
In modern days, Bugis and Kampong appear more entertaining with myriad restaurants, clubs, markets and bazaars at every turn. Most Singaporeans come to Bugis and Kampong district for window-shopping, dining and drinking and just promenading around. Parco Junction is a Singapore’s teenage hub which is run by people behind the Japan’s famous Shibuya Parco. Bugis and Kampong Glam is another worthy place for shopping.
