The Singapore HeritageFest is one of Singapore’s most renowned events. Arranged by the National Heritage Board’s Education and Outreach Division, this interesting event, called “SHF” for short in Singapore, attracts a large number of locals and tourists from a variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds. This year SHF will be held from the 15th to the 26th of July 2009.
People come to Singapore HeritageFest to explore and celebrate the multicultural heritage of the nation. The theme of the festival are “Celebrating Our Multicultural Heritage” and “Who’s Your Neighbour?” which will be tied to all components.
Singapore HeritageFest was first launched in July 2004 to cultivate a greater sense of community and to promote inter-racial unity by generating a greater consciousness; to build knowledge and appreciation amongst Singaporeans for their diverse heritage through interaction and participation. The other main purposes of the festival are to create more colorful heritage scenery in Singapore and to display our heritage and culture for Singapore’s visitors.
On the first day, the official opening ceremony will be held at Suntec City, the center of the festival. You will be entertained by cultural displays performed daily by local villagers. Enjoy the many exhibitions, which illustrate the cultural diversity of Singapore’s population. There is also a food-related event called Food Traditions at Northpoint where exhibitions and stage performances are based on theme of food, mainly rice cultures. This is a great opportunity to learn many things you may have never seen or heard about the Lion city.
In addition to the Celebrate Our Multicultural Heritage event, participants will have a chance to interact with their neighbors. Since many residents rarely have a chance to talk to or get to know one another, Singapore HeritageFest (SHF) affords them that opportunity for communicating and connecting with each-other. Other activities include school competitions and outreach programs, a photography competition and exhibition, music and food events, and outdoor challenges.
If you yearn for something unique and exciting to enjoy with your family, without spending a large amount of money, Singapore HeritageFest is a great event for everyone.
